Batik Painting

Get crafty at our batik painting class today. A popular Javanese method of cloth dyeing. This is a great family activity where young and old get together to appreciate this traditional art. The word batik (pronounced Bateek) means "wax written" and this is basically what batik is. It is a way of decorating cloth by covering part of it with a coat of wax and then dyeing the cloth. The waxed area keeps its original color and when the wax is removed the contrast between the dyed and undyed area makes the pattern. To keep it simple, most of our batik workshops come with pre waxed fabric with ready designs on it hence only painting is required. This is a great team bonding activity where a group of people can come together to collectively create a large batik art.

Do I need to prepare any logistics for the workshop?

It would be ideal if a long table covered with plastic sheets and chairs are provided if not, the activity can be done on the ground. If the activity is done on the ground, we highly recommend having groundsheets to protect the batik cloth and prevent staining.
